about

In the winter of 1986/87, Swamp Thing recorded their second and final LP, A Cow Come True, at the Carriage House in Connecticut. Victor Borge was also recording there. He couldn't be persuaded to join the "Rabbit Revolution," but much of the other talent working at the studio got pulled into the Swamp. L. Shankar, one of the world's finest violinists, emerged briefly from a cannabis cloud to contribute wild psychedelic figures to the song "Nasty Iks." Denny Diblasio, renowned jazz horn player and arranger, joined in on "Money Guns." Even the Rhythm Kings, a traditional four-man doo wop group, got behind the band on "I Don't Need No Doctor" and "When You Came to Town." The band also brought in a few long-time friends: Brian Ritchie of Violent Femmes played his mariachi bass on "Mackerel Nose," a ripping guitar solo on "Forgot How To Work," and jaw harp on "Iks." Madison's own Andy Ewen played guitar on the R&B classic "I Don't Need No Doctor." and "Jupiter and The Frogs."

While several journals gave the record positive reviews—People magazine praised "Mackerel Nose" as "snappy and Kafkaesque" and purpleoverdose said "...de band op de opvolger voor een verschuiving richting de Alternative-gitaarrock met een funky bass en waar de gitaar af en toe naar hartelust mag gieren"—the band decided to pack it in not long after the album's release.

The Swamps had a lot of fun making the record and hope you enjoy the songs and the memories.
